How We Manufacture Quality Rack Ends?
From inspected steel, ball stud blanks and POM material to the packed finished part, all 12 steps are monitored by experienced QC staff to ensure stable quality, accurate fitment and reliable performance.
Raw Material Inspection
Incoming steel, ball stud blanks and POM resin are checked for chemical composition, dimensions and surface condition before release to production. Every steel batch arrives with a material inspection report and is verified by random composition testing.
Housing / Shaft Machining
Housings and shafts are turned, drilled and tapped on CNC lines to form accurate internal and external dimensions. Tight tolerance control at this stage guarantees correct fitment with the mating steering rack and related components.
Thread Machining
Both thread sections are machined in a controlled setup: the steering rack side thread that connects to the rack, and the tie rod end side thread that connects to the outer tie rod. Thread size, profile and effective length are checked to guarantee proper assembly.
Ball Stud Manufacturing
Ball studs are turned, formed, heat treated and precision finished to reach the required dimensions, hardness and surface quality. Because the ball must carry steering loads while pivoting inside the POM bushing, this process is critical to Rack End performance.
POM Bushing Production
POM material is injection molded into the ball seat bushing. The bushing bore is matched to the ball stud to control rotating resistance and internal clearance -- key factors behind stable steering feel and long service life.
Grease Groove Preparation
Grease grooves are machined on the relevant components and the correct amount of lubricant is applied, so the ball stud stays lubricated through its full swing angle. This reduces friction, wear and noise for the entire service life of the part.
Ball Stud & Bushing Assembly
The ball stud is pressed into the POM bushing and then seated into the housing. Dedicated press equipment controls press-in position and assembly dimensions, keeping swing torque and clearance consistent from part to part.
Housing Crimping / Closing
After assembly, the housing is crimped and closed so all internal components stay securely in position. This operation directly determines axial play, swing torque and the overall reliability of the Rack End.
Jam Nut Assembly
The jam nut is fitted and its thread engagement and locking condition are verified. The jam nut locks the Rack End adjustment position during installation, so correct assembly here protects alignment and prevents loosening in service.
Grease Filling & Sealing
Grease is filled to specification and the dust boot and sealing components are installed to keep dust, water and contaminants out of the ball joint. Proper sealing preserves lubrication and extends service life in harsh road conditions.
Dimensional & Performance Inspection
Finished rack ends are tested for thread dimensions, ball stud movement, rotational and swing torque, axial play, overall dimensions, appearance, and grease and sealing condition. Results are recorded for full traceability.
Final Inspection & Packing
After passing final inspection, products are packed to customer requirements -- GDST or private label packaging, OE number and logo printing, color boxes, color bags, labels and export cartons -- ready for delivery worldwide.
All rack ends are manufactured in compliance with IATF16949 and ISO9001 quality management standards.

What is a rack end in a steering system?
A rack end (also called an inner tie rod end) is the inner joint that connects the steering rack to the outer tie rod end. What is the difference between a rack end and a tie rod end?
A rack end is the inner tie rod that threads into the steering rack and sits closest to the vehicle centerline, while a tie rod end is the outer joint that connects to the steering knuckle at the wheel. The rack end handles axial load transfer from the rack, and the tie rod end provides the pivot point for wheel articulation.
